Directions for Using the Grading and Feedback System

The Teach BIG ASE (TBASE) Grading and Feedback System is designed for ease of use and instructional flexibility. Educators may either type directly into each field or copy and paste content into the corresponding input boxes.


Step-by-Step Directions
Step 1: Enter Student Name or Identifier

Enter the student’s name, identifier, or label in the designated field. This identifier is determined by the educator and is not required to include personally identifiable information.

Step 2: Enter Passage Title

Type or paste the title of the passage being assessed into the Passage Title field.

Step 3: Enter Passage Prompt

Type or paste the prompt or question associated with the passage into the Passage Prompt field.

Step 4: Enter Passage

Type or paste the full passage text into the Passage field.

Step 5: Enter Student Response

Type or paste the student’s written response into the Student Response field.


Data Entry Options

All of the following may be typed directly into the field boxes or copied and pasted:

  • Student name or identifier
  • Passage title
  • Passage prompt
  • Passage text
  • Student response

Student Identifying Information: Acceptable Options

Educators may choose any method of identifying student work that aligns with school or district policies. Acceptable options include, but are not limited to:

  • Student name
  • Teacher name paired with an assigned number
  • Student ID number
  • Initials or pseudonyms
  • Any other identifying label that ties the student to their response

TBASE does not require personally identifiable student information. The level and type of identification used is solely at the discretion of the educator, school, or district.
